Job Description

Summary
As a Lathe Operator, you will be responsible for operating a lathe machine to manufacture precision components and parts in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications. Your role involves setting up the lathe, selecting and mounting cutting tools, loading materials, and executing machining processes to produce high-quality products. You will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the lathe and contributing to the success of our manufacturing processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lathe Machine Operation: Operate the lathe machine to perform turning, facing, boring, threading, and other machining operations on workpieces as per provided instructions and drawings.
  • Workpiece Loading/Unloading: Safely load raw materials or workpieces onto the lathe’s chuck or spindle, ensuring proper alignment and securing them for machining. Unload finished parts and inspect them for quality.
  • Tool Selection and Setup: Select and mount appropriate cutting tools, inserts, and tool holders based on job requirements.
  • Ensure tools are in good condition and meet quality standards before initiating the machining process.
  • Machining Execution: Start and monitor the lathe machine during the machining process, adjusting cutting parameters as needed to achieve desired dimensions and surface finishes.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect machined parts using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify dimensional accuracy and adherence to specifications.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot any issues that arise during the machining process, such as tool wear, vibrations, or material defects. Make necessary adjustments to maintain optimal production.
  • Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on the lathe, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn-out or damaged components. Report any significant maintenance needs to supervisors or maintenance personnel.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of production activities, including job setup details, tool changes, inspection results, and any issues encountered during the machining process.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while operating the lathe machine. Follow company policies and industry regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve machining efficiency, reduce cycle times, and enhance product quality. Suggest and implement initiatives to optimize lathe operations.
