Job Description

Summary 
As a CNC Lathe Setup Operator, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC lathes to produce precision components and parts. Your expertise in machine setup and programming will ensure the efficient and accurate production of machined items in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications. Your role is critical in maintaining the quality and productivity of the manufacturing process.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Machine Setup: Prepare and set up CNC lathes by installing and aligning necessary tooling, fixtures, and workpieces. Ensure proper selection and mounting of cutting tools, inserts, and collets based on job requirements.
  • Programming: Create, modify, and optimize CNC lathe programs using appropriate software. Input the required commands and instructions into the machine’s control panel to execute the machining process accurately.
  • Tool Selection: Select and verify appropriate cutting tools and inserts based on job specifications. Ensure that all tooling is in good condition and meet quality standards before initiating the machining process.
  • Workpiece Loading/Unloading: Safely load raw materials or workpieces onto the CNC lathe’s chuck or spindle and secure them properly for machining. Unload finished parts and inspect them for quality.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular inspections of machined parts using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure they meet required specifications and tolerances.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues that may arise during the machining process, such as tool wear, chip buildup, or machine malfunctions. Make necessary adjustments to maintain optimal production.
  • Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on CNC lathes, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn-out or damaged components. Report any significant maintenance needs to supervisors or maintenance personnel.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of production activities, including machine setup details, tool changes, program adjustments, and inspection results.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while operating CNC lathes. Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, such as reducing cycle times or optimizing tooling usage. Suggest and implement solutions to enhance productivity and efficiency.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in CNC machining is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a CNC Lathe Setup Operator or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming languages and software specific to lathe operations.
  • Strong understanding of precision measuring instruments and quality inspection techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with tooling selection, setup, and maintenance for CNC lathes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot machining issues effectively.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy materials and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols related to CNC machining operations.
  • Bilingual preferred
