Job Description

Job Summary:
With little or no assistance, the CNC Machinist will operate CNC machines and conventional machines to produce complex aerospace parts demonstrating advanced cross training flexibility. They will have experience with most, if not all automated CNC machines and their operational capabilities.

Essential Functions:
 Fully operate multiple machines as needed, including CNC and conventional machines
 Perform pre-operational inspections
 Studies blueprints, manuals, dispatch specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements
 Perform complex set ups without assistance on multiple machines; checking or changing chucking jaws, tools, rotating off sets, etc
 Operates sit down forklift to retrieve parts and load them onto racks
 Utilize cranes and hoists to load and unload parts from racks onto machines
 Operate machines on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings and programmed controls
 Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines
 Calculates and sets controls to regulates machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
 Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls as required Verifies conformance of finished workpieces to specifications
 Track time on each function or task by maintaining time records on BAMC

Non-Essential:
 In accordance with Company policies, promote safety by working in a safe manner at all times
 Sweep and maintain clean area surrounding machine
 Remove any trash from work area
 Write up completed job orders
 Maintain traveler package, generate traceable paperwork
 Maintain Quality records
 Operate the Gun Drill and other cutting tools to perform perforations
 Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining problems
 Perform other duties as assigned by management

Job Requirements

Minimum Experience:
 3+ years of experience
 Experience with set up and running different types of machines, including both manual and CNC
 Or at the discretion of the hiring manager

Minimum Education:
 High school grad or GED preferred
 Trade school for machine/CNC or equivalent work experience
 Or at the discretion of the hiring manager

Skills & Abilities:
 Able to set up and run different types of machines including manual and CNC
 Basic computer skills
 Able to read and understand blue prints
 Experience with 5 axis preferred
 Basic shop math skills for set-up of machine and to follow specifications
 Able to work within specific time lines
 Knowledge of heat treat process to able to work with machined parts Must be accurate and detailed with minimum errors
 Perform job with minimum supervision
 Work within a team environment

Work Environment:
 Machine shop with well-lit workspaces and task lighting with anti-fatigue mats

Physical Demands/ Conditions:
 Must be able to lift at least 50lbs unassisted on a regular basis in order to load and unload equipment and move finished goods
 Ability to stand on a non-fatigue mat about 85% of the work day
 Frequently walks; uses hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms
 Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception, requires use of safety glasses
 Employee is required to be alert to detail and use caution around moving material
 Employee may occasionally be required to sit, balance, stoop and/or crawl
 Noise level is usually high and required the use of hearing protection
 While performing the duties of the job, employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, airborne particles, fumes and extreme heat
