Job Description

SUMMARY
SMT Technician will support engineering and manufacturing activities for all surface mount operations. Use problem solving tools to continually improve processes while eliminate defects and errors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned).

– Independently program, setup and run a complete SMT line
– Generate SMT programs for use by all SMT lines using IS software optimizing setup, balancing machines, and reducing takt times
– Work closely with Engineering and Lean Manufacturing to suggest and implement process improvements and efficiencies
– Maintain and/or perform minor repairs of manufacturing equipment including, but not limited to: pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens
– Maintain and request replacements of stencils and tooling to Engineering, based on wear, tear, and usage
– Provide pre and post manufacturing reviews and finalize process issues as required
– Support the lines with setup to minimize changeover time
– Verify SPI programs
– Ensure pastes and materials are ordered thru Engineering/Purchasing as minimum levels are reached
– Run and operate the SMT equipment when needed
– Monitor, review, edit and update SMT Program Scheduler as needed

INTERNAL COMMUNICATION
– Ability to read and interpret documents, instructions, operation manuals, safety rules, etc.
– Must have interpersonal and language skills necessary to deal with people at all levels within the organization
– Ability to understand basic reports relating to this department

Job Requirements

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree with 3 years in the electronics manufacturing industry or similar experience
  • Experience with RoHS and statistical methods required
  • Strong leadership and coaching/mentoring skills
  • Working knowledge of IPC-610A standards
  • Must have solid process engineering experience in the SMT printed circuit board assembly industry in a high-reliability environment; contract manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Experience should include BGA, Micro-BGA, fine pitch, thermal profiling, screen printing, pick-and-place programming and reflow profiling.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • IPC-610 and/or J-STD-001 Certification is preferred 


Language:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to read, interpret and develop documents, instructions, operation manuals, safety rules, etc.

Technical Skills:

  • Basic computer skills in MS Office, including Word and Excel
  • Knowledge in manufacturing monitoring and MRP systems
  • Understanding of SPC and SQC

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems, manage multiple tasks given in written and oral form

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
    • Must have 20/20 visual acuity with or without glasses and color vision

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to moderate noise level on the production floor.
    • Regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment and hot parts.
